Hi folks

Anyone caught any trout in the lower Stour recently?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have fallen upon hard times recently, and am looking for free places to game fish to supress the depression. I am astounded by some of the prices being asked for in the area - up to £50 for three fish in some local places.

I ended up going all the way to Tolpuddle Lakes for a reasonable £15 2fish limit. A difficult place to fish tho'

Does anyone else feel a little priced out of the game fishing game?

cheers

Hi

I have not fished the lower Stour recently, nor really been into game fishing - not having the money for it, the only trout i've caught was by accident on the Avon, on some maggots.

A couple of years ago I did see someone fly fishing at Muscliffe on the free stretch, not sure what he caught though.

I do know that Wimborne Angling Club have game waters - though not sure of their costs in addition to their £85 year membership fee.

Hi

I've had sea trout on coarse tackle and baits from Wick and the Meridians stretch.  Chap at work recently had a brown trout from Throop on maggot!

Not sure if £8.00 for a day ticket is cheap, but I had an a couple of hours to kill in Salisbury last weekend (daughter at rugby) and tried the LAA stretch at Bridge Farm, Britford:grayling a distinct possibility and the baliff genuinely helpful.

Also if you can get access, don't forget that the Lymington River from Brock' downstream holds brown trout.

Brown trout at throop is rare, even with maggot usage!

Good to hear of a recommendation where the baliff was helpful.  Not fished that stretch myself.  £8 seems to be the going rate for some of the river stretches now.

Chris

My general view of balliff's is that they take your money and look condensendingly at your tackle (oh er missus) and choice of swim, but offer no advice.  Chap at Britford different class, physically moved me to a better swim and started feeding it for me.   Guess unless the daughter is at rugby in Sals again, I wont visit again, but an interesting stretch and yes £8.00 is about the going rate; which makes your Ringwood and my Christchurch and Wellworthy club books look good value!

Regards
