Hi Guys & Gals

My son has just started course fishing and he has been told that there is a "free stretch" at Muscliffe, ??? is this right, ????

He is at this time fishing near the Iford Tavern, has a rod licence but has been told he does not need to a day ticket to fish near to the road bridge going into Christchurch and the old bridge next to it.

 OK, here are the questions.

As a bove is there a free stretch at Muscliffe and if so how far does this run.

Is he OK to be fishing near the bridges by the Iford Tavern with only his rod licecence.

Are there any other free stretches in the area, how long does the Muscliffe stretch run if this is true.

Sorry for the questions but I looked at the fines on the Environment Agencies website and do not fancy coughing up £2,500, my son as you can guess is the only one in the family who wants to get into river fishing so any advise would be appreciated.

 Thanks

GINGER-TAZ Frown

I'm not sure about the stretch at Iford ( I don't know ).  The most important thing to have is the rod licence.  Usually if someone owns the fishing rights on the river, there are signs put up to let you know not to fish there or where to buy a day ticket from.  If there's other anglers nearby (or maybe the nearby tackle shop) it might be worth asking them about the Iford stretch.

The Iford stretch - above Iford Bridge to the boundary with Throop is private fishing for Christchurch AC members only.  Once you hit the boundary with Throop, then it is private fishing for Ringwood DAA mebers only. Downstream of Iford Bridge is a Christchurch club water but fishable on a day ticket.  Sean in Christchurch Angling Centre will put you staright.

There is a free stretch at Longham by the way.

If your lad is no great age, I doubt if either he or you will get the book thrown at him or you.  I'm sure generations of lads have chanced their arm here, if challenged will he pay dumb and apolgetic or get uppity?  I'd advise the former, well actually, I'd say join a club, but hey we've all done a bit of blagging in our time!
