Description
Broadlands is situated just off the M27 just outside Southampton.
One of the premier carp lakes in the country, let alone the South. Broadlands consists of 3 large lakes, set in remains of the gravel pits used to build the nearby M27, feed by the River Test.
The largest lake is the main lake at around 25 acres in size. All the lakes in excellent leafy surroundings, and the main lake has 2 islands which provide a target for some swims.
In 1997 the lake suffered from a mystery carp virus which wiped out around half of the lakes stocks, which has meant a major restocking program has been undertaken by the owners in 1999/2000. Now this is starting to pay dividends with lots of specimens being taken recently up to around the 30lb mark.
Apart from the carps that the lake is famous for the lakes also stock the following fish. Pike, grass carp, tench, bream, roach & rudd.
In one year alone over 4000 double figure carp were caught including more than 500 over 20lb’s.
Carp up to 37lb+ , Grass Carp to 25lb+ , Pike to 30lb+ , Tench to 8lb+ , Roach to 3lb+, Bream to 14lb+ & Eels to 10lb+ have been recorded .There are special features for the disabled angler including lakeside fishing secure platforms & lakeside carpark
